Harper's Head- 4 months

2011 is going to be a busy year for us Cranio wise, we already have 3 upcoming appointments, in Febuary we meet with the Opthamologist and the Neurosurgeon. Harper will also have a blood workup done at one of these appointments. We are still waiting on an appointment for the Neuorologist, but that will be closer to her surgery. Then in March we have a follow up appointment with the Craniofacial Plastic Surgeon hopefully by then we will have a better idea of a surgery date, at the moment all we know is between 8 - 12 months so it could be anywhere from May - September. They told us that we would have firm date only 3 weeks before surgery.

Here are some new pictures of Harper's head taken at 4 months:

In this picture you can see the pinching at Harper's temples which causes indentation above her eyebrows.

  1. Hello! I commented on your last post. I think it is interesting that Harper's surgery will be b/w 8&12 mo. Our surgeons wanted my daughter's b/w 6&8 mo. and surgery has been set for 3/30 which is 7 mo. Just curious, what was their reason for choosing that time frame? I'm sorry that you will have to wait even longer to put surgery past you. Hope you are handling this all as well as possible. - Michelle W.

  2. Hi Michelle, from what I've gathered from other parents is that every surgeon is different. I'm in Melbourne, Australia and here there is really only 1 hospital that does this surgery. I think optimally surgery should be done between 6-12 months so that they are nice and strong for surgery but not too old that the cranio can cause complications. I know our hospital has a bit of waiting list which is why we are looking at between 8-12 months but if for some reason they think she needs it earlier they will squeeze her in. If it were up to me she would be having surgery around 6 months. I hope your daughters surgery goes well. Keep me updated :)

  3. Hi, Bec. Michelle here. My daughter had surgery on 3/30 and the recovery is going well. Hope to be able to go home tomorrow. She opened her eyes a tiny slit today. Can't wait to see her eyes again. She's SO very swollen, but it is decreasing. And her head is ROUND! Yippee! She hasn't wanted to take a bottle very well but she ate some applesauce today. They said she should be eating "robustly" in order to go home. We'll see... Hope all goes well with Harper's surgery. If you have any questions, feel free to ask away. Take care, Michelle
